- Salary : £30395 to £39609 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for two Postdoctoral Fellows to join our Future Foods “Beacon of Excellence”.
As the successful applicant, you will join a team of postdoctoral and postgraduate students addressing three primary objectives:
Objective 1: Investigate the alternative means for generating protein and whether these can be manipulated to improve the quality or efficiency by which protein is produced
Objective 2: Determine interventions that potentially utilise alternative, low-value feed sources to facilitate the sustainable production of such proteins
Objective 3: Development of these alternative protein sources for use in aquaculture, farm animal production and/or as human food ingredients
Post 1: You will work with colleagues across the School of Biosciences (Sutton Bonington Campus) to explore the use of molecular techniques to enhance the quantity and quality of novel sources of protein (e.g. bacteria and insects). The person appointed will plan and conduct work aimed at manipulating protein production in such organisms and assess their potential use as animal feed/human food.
Post 2: You will work jointly with our colleagues in the School of Biosciences (Sutton Bonington Campus) and School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (University Park Campus) to further our understanding of the digestibility, bioaccessability and bioavailability of protein from novel sources. You will plan and conduct work, using both in vitro digestive systems and in vivo models (using broiler chickens), to assess the quality of protein derived from novel protein sources including, underutilised plants, insects, bacteria, fungi and algae.
Both successful candidates will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.
