List of Travel Grants for conferences (International/National) for Indian Students

Here is the list of funding agencies that provide travel grants for attending National and International conferences for Indian researchers and students. These travel grants can be used to attend International conferences/seminars/ workshops. Do check the last option if you are finding it hard to fit in these travel grant eligibility.

DST International Travel Grant (International Travel Support, ITS)

ITS scheme is designed to provide financial assistance for presenting a research paper or chairing a session or delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (conference/seminar/symposium/workshop etc.). In addition, support is also provided to young scientists (age limit 35 years as on date of conference) for attending training programmes and short-term schools/workshops/courses.

Economy class air-fare by shortest route, airport-tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. Registration Fee is provided to young scientist in addition to the above support.

A limited number of travel grants is available for eligible participants who are selected to attend EMBO Workshops, EMBO Practical Courses, EMBO | FEBS Lecture Courses, EMBO | EMBL Symposia.

IBRO Travel Grant: International Travel Grants International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO) 

IBRO International Travel Grants aim to foster neuroscience research, especially in less well-funded countries, by providing support to high-quality neuroscientists from diverse geographic and scientific areas (US/Canada Region excluded), who wish to participate in international neuroscience meetings. Calls for applications are made twice per year (February and August).

ICMR Travel Grant: International Travel by Non-ICMR Scientists ICMR

  • The Scheme provides financial assistance for presenting research paper or chairing a session as also delivering a lecture / delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (Conference/Seminar/Symposia/Workshops) to Non-ICMR Bio-medical Scientists.
  • In addition, support is also provided to young scientists (age limit 35 years as on date of Conference), nurses and paramedical staff for attending training programmes and short- term schools/workshops/courses on the basis of the priority areas already defined.
  • Full excursion class air fare by shortest route, airport tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. Registration fee is provided to young scientists in addition to the above support.
  • The Council will provide financial assistance max. of Rs 1,50,000/- to selected candidates.

Conference, Travel, Exhibition and Popular Lectures (CTEP) Programme 

To popularise Biotechnology activities in India, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India provides financial assistance towards organizing Conference/ Seminar/ Symposium/ Workshop and Travel support to the researchers for presenting their papers in the conferences which are being organised outside the country.

It also extends support for organising DBT stalls in Exhibitions held within the country as well as outside the country. Financial supports are also provided for organising Popular Lectures. The collective term for these four activities is CTEP (Conference, Travel, Exhibition and Popular Lectures).

IBM Travel Grant for Resident INDIAN Students and Researchers

About 10-15 student travel grants will be available. The travel grant includes a waiver of registration fees for both conference and tutorial, train fare by shortest route in III-tier sleeper class (non-AC), hostel-type accommodation and some support for local hospitality. Student authors are given priority.

About 10-15 travel grants will be available for researchers from academia. A travel grant will be either a waiver of 50% registration fee for the conference (depending on the merit of the case, it may be a full waiver, but the chance of a full waiver is low) or support for train fare by the shortest route in III tier sleeper class (non-AC), moderate accommodation with some support for local hospitality.

NBHM provides partial or full travel assistance to mathematicians for attending conferences, symposia, summer schools etc. within the country or abroad.

Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (IARCS) Travel Grants 

Since 2003-2004, IARCS has made available grants for partial support to travel to conferences and other academic meetings in all areas of Computing Science, both in India and abroad.

  • From 2014, these grants are jointly sponsored by ACM India. With this additional funding, the quantum of support available for individual grants has been enhanced. The application procedure remains the same and the grants will continue to be administered through IARCS.

The ‘Inlaks Research Travel Grant’ offers financial support for a maximum of 3 months at a university/institution/library abroad. The grant will cover:

  • Reasonable air fare
  • Maintenance expenses at a modest rate
  • Funds for buying material and books, and making copies of relevant literature

Soffen Fund Travel Grant 

Two awards in the amount of $500 will be presented at the deadline, contingent upon acceptance of the recipients’ conference abstracts. Recipients must be able to attend their conference using the Travel Grant and, if necessary, support from other sources; supplemental funds above the $500 award cannot be requested from the Soffen Fund.
